Guy lines are used in stunt rigging as tension lines that hold usually free-standing structures in place. Guys can be placed on a truss that has been suspended by a crane or rigged into trees. The primary function of having guy lines in place is to hold in and stop...

Slack Line Rigs
Slack Line rigs are basic rigs used for flying Performers. Slack Lines are easy and quick to rig and dynamic, allowing for multiple axis moves, giving the Performer the flexibility to move in several directions on the one system.
Reverse Pulley Systems
Reverse pulley systems have two primary uses in stunt rigging, they are: Increase the speed at which an object or person Increase the distance of travel of an object or person Increase the speed at which an object or person can be moved Using a ratio or pulley system to...
Rigging for Circus and Aerial Performers
This page is to rigging for circus and aerial performers. I have had many performers come to me with questions about how their apparatuses are rigged or have been rigged in the past. The style of the performance determines the way the apparatus will need to be rigged, along with...
Gadgets and Gear
Stunt rigging equipment, or “GEAR”, is the lifeblood of the Rigger. Without gear, there is not much to rig. To have great ideas of how to rig, you must also have a great understanding of the types of equipment that can be used to compliment a rig and achieve your...
Carabiners & Connectors – which one to use?
Carabiners have many subtle differences. Choosing the right one may require the assistance of the manufacturer. Some of these differences are:
Pulleys
Pulleys are devices that enable the smooth running of rigs that have moving ropes. Any time a rope is placed into a rig that involves moving a Performer by mechanical advantage, reverse system, on a pendulum or slackline rig, pulleys will need to be placed into the system wherever the rope changes direction. Using pulleys is the key way to reduce unwanted drag or resistance in a rig. Resistance adds unnecessary work when operating the rig, and placing pulleys into the system reduces this, and increases the effectiveness of the rigging.
Building Rapport
Having rapport with other people is the best way to ensure that you have a clear and concise line of communication.
Splicing
zA splice is a means by which braided ropes can have ‘eyes’, placed in the ends to enable a connection or to join two lines together to increase the length. When done correctly, they are as strong as the rope, which makes splicing a better option over knots in high...
Performer Safety & Rig Awareness
Performer Safety & Rig Awareness is about asking questions: What exactly is the action required? Who are the riggers? How is the rig operated? Who is operating it? Have end marks been set? Having the ability to ask questions not only shows that you are aware of the process but...
