Personal Work / Fall Arrest Harnesses
Personal work harnesses are required as part of the standard rigging kit for all Riggers. This is something that will be of personal preference, as there are many types on the market. The ability of the human body to survive a fall depends principally on the decelerating forces imposed during...
Rope – A Stunt Riggers Guide
Rope is the primary tool that is used for Stunt Rigging. It is therefore one of the most important components of rigging to understand.
Having a thorough understanding and knowledge of rope and its uses will enable you to make the right choices for the application at the time. This is one of the more critical decisions a Rigger can make when planning and implementing a rig. The decision to use a certain type of rope will be based on the forces that will be applied to the rig, the Performer, the environment and on the anchor points.
Knots and splices are the means by which ropes are then incorporated into a rig. Having a broad knowledge of ropes will allow you to make good decisions when choosing what knot to tie or which splice to do.
Stunt and flying Harnesses
Harnesses are the final link in rigging, not only for the Rigger but also for the Performer, as they are the final attachment point that connects them to your creation. Once this connection is made the rig comes to life to produce the desired result. The art of choosing the...
Anchor Systems
Anchor systems are a critical part of rigging in any environment. It could be said that stunt rigging is the most diverse form of rigging. Because of the nature Film industry, it covers stories from almost every walk of life. This means that the Stunt Rigger will have to know,...
Guy Lines & Tension devices
Guy lines are used in stunt rigging as tension lines that hold usually free-standing structures in place. Guys can be placed on a truss that has been suspended by a crane or rigged into trees. The primary function of having guy lines in place is to hold in and stop...
Pulleys
Pulleys are devices that enable the smooth running of rigs that have moving ropes. Any time a rope is placed into a rig that involves moving a Performer by mechanical advantage, reverse system, on a pendulum or slackline rig, pulleys will need to be placed into the system wherever the rope changes direction. Using pulleys is the key way to reduce unwanted drag or resistance in a rig. Resistance adds unnecessary work when operating the rig, and placing pulleys into the system reduces this, and increases the effectiveness of the rigging.
Pulley Systems
Pulley systems are mechanical devices consisting of a wheel or set of wheels with a groove along the circumference. They have been used for centuries to facilitate the movement and lifting of heavy objects. The origins of pulley systems can be traced back to ancient civilizations, where they were utilized...
Reverse Pulley Systems
Reverse pulley systems have two primary uses in stunt rigging, they are: Increase the speed at which an object or person Increase the distance of travel of an object or person Increase the speed at which an object or person can be moved Using a ratio or pulley system to...
